Loksatta Party to strengthen fight against bribes for khatas
02 October 2010 Loksatta party has committed its support to the residents of Sachidananda Nagar in strengthening the fight for issuance of khata documents to rightful property owners. Early on 16 September party representative Mr. Srinivas Alavalli, along with many other party members, had accompanied the residents for their meeting with the BBMP Commissioner, Mr. Siddaiah. In an act of Gandhigiri, about 70 residents each presented a rose to the Commissioner. In response, Mr. Siddaiah empathised with the cause of the residents and promised to get back within 48 hours. "However, even after more than two weeks since the promise made in front of more than 100 people including the media, no action or even message has been forthcoming.", said Mr. Srinivas. But unfazed by the lack of responsiveness of BBMP, which the residents have since got accustomed to, Sachidananda Nagara Nyayapara Andolana (SNNA), the movement initated by the residents has decided to take this matter to all possible forums. On Monday, members of SNNA and Loksatta party met with Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde and later during the day, they had an appointment with Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. Subhir Hari Singh. Both these distinguished officials have committed to make the best use of their official capacities to address the issue. Loksatta Party views the Sachidananda Nagara Nyayapara Andolana as a model movement where educated and accomplished citizens are leading the way in the fight against corruption. Senior party leader, Mr. N S Ramakanth said, "All these residents, who have now come together, are from among people like you and me. But it is their circumstances and undithered resolve that has today made them do the extra-ordinary". He applauded the 120 residents for being united in their cause despite attempts by the BBMP officials to divide them "It is amazing that some people who were waiting for their Khatas for years, refused to accept it even when given, unless they are assured that all residents would get Khatas. These noble men and women have placed the interest of the community above their self-interest." Loksatta members have created a web site which showcases the chronological events and the objectives of the Andolana. The link to the webpage is: http://www.nyayapara-andolana.org/ Loksatta Party has been a pillar of support to SNNA whether it be networking with civil society organisations, connecting and communicating with the media or simply providing the youth energy and expertise of organisation to the movement. As Mr. Udaya Shankara of the SNNA expressed his gratitude to Loksatta, "We the members of Sachidananda Nagara Nyayapara Andolana thank all of you for your support for our fight for justice."
